Wrap - Round 3

It was great to see so many kids enjoying their athletics last weekend. Lots of great runs, jumps, throws, and good vibes – keep them going, we’re loving what everyone is bringing each weekend.

PBs and other performances

We get really excited about our athletes when they achieve great results, so a massive call out to SUPERSTAR Lucy Malcolmson who broke the U17F 800m centre record, running a superb 2:45.75 last weekend. What a performance, well done!

Now that we’re starting to rotate through our programs for the second time, from next week we’ll start posting the club PB results from the weekend. The list is always impressive, so keep an eye out. Unsure if it was a PB? Look for the STAR on your track printout or your TM will have field event stats handy!

Regular Volunteer Roles

Thinking about giving back to your club? We really need your help to fill some roles – particularly during the U6-U8 session. Here are the gaps that need filling:

  • Team manager for U6 girls. Skye is filling in but it’s only temporary as she’s a TM for another age group (plus wears other MLAC hats). The girls are beautiful in every way; it’s a small group and they are so much fun!

  • Early session canteen & BBQ coordinator – this is an urgent call out. We’re at the stage that we cannot open the canteen during the U6-8 session, which means no sausages or zooper doopers on sale until after 10am.

  • Starters & timing. Can you help in the U6-8 session? It’s really straightforward and we’ll train you up.

Truly, no experience is needed; we’ll show you what to do. If interested, email mentonecomms@lavic.com.au or say hi to anyone in a Mentone polo or hoodie at Dolomore Reserve.

Wednesday centre training

Now that everyone is getting into their athletic rhythm, we probably don’t need to remind you about Wednesday night centre training.

Free as part of your registration, this week, head coach Rupert, and his band of merry junior coaches, will offer hurdles, high jump, discus and distance training between 5pm and 6pm to our U9+ junior athletes. Our younger athletes are making the most of the On Track coaching sessions each program.

This Saturday’s parent duties

Thanks to those who helped set up and pack up last weekend. The more help we get, the better, it ensures we start and finish each session on time.

This weekend, U8 families are on set up and U10 families on pack down – this also includes the BBQ and canteen for your session. Make sure you mark yourself off, so you get your duty bond back at season’s end. Want to know when your age group is next on duty? Check the parent duties on the website.

How can you help your TM?

Yes, your age group TM is awesome, but they can’t do everything (also - spoiler alert - they do this for FREE). Have a think about how you can assist them on Saturday mornings – don't wait to be asked, just get in and help, measuring distances, scanning races, raking sand or marking down results. It’s super easy and gets your little athlete through each event rotation faster.

What’s coming – Relay Day!

Sun 15 Nov is Mentone Relay Day. It’s a massive day, heaps of fun and attracts clubs from across Melbourne. Your TM works hard to put teams together, so check out the information now and have a chat to them about your availability. It’s a great lead-in to regional and State championship events, which we are also taking expressions of interest for.

Remember to follow us on socials

Whether it’s centre training information, session cancellations, vacant roles, or other MLAC messages, follow our social media platforms @mentonelac and stay up to date. Definitely keep a close eye on socials on Saturday morning as the rains are coming (fingers crossed they’re not)
