Round 5 Wrap Up

Melbourne Cup long weekend always has a lot of families take advantage and go away, so it was fantastic to see so many of our little athletes bringing their best on a day that was a little iffy from a weather perspective.

Thunderbolts and lightning

Well... it wasn’t very, very frightening, but it was a concern. The U6-8 session was a little damp, but our littlies soldiered on, but we had to call an early end to the second session due to the lightning.

As soon as lightning presents, we must clear the track and wait 30 minutes from the last crack. If you get 20 minutes in and there’s another lightning crack, then the 30min count starts again. From a health and safety perspective, it was clear cut. Session stopped.

And… a massive thanks to everyone who helped pack up in world record time. Your help was so appreciated.

PBs and other performances

It was a shame that we had to stop early, because the kids were racking up the PBs – you can see the results here.

In the U6-8 session, well done to Jada M (7G), Jack M (7B) and Caleb P (7B) who all got PBs in all three events. In the U9+, Maya T (12G) got three PBs across the three events completed – before the premature end to the session. Had it finished, we’re confident more would have joined her.

Wednesday centre training

Free as part of your registration, this week head coach Rupert, and his talented junior coaches, will offer sprints, long jump, jav and distance / walks training between 5pm and 6pm for our U9+ junior athletes. A reminder that U6-8 Wednesday training begins in the new year.

This Saturday’s parent duties

Thanks to those who helped set up and pack up last weekend – particularly given that weather. The more help we get the better, it ensures we start and finish each session on time.

This weekend, U6 families are on set up and U13-17 families on pack down – this also includes the BBQ and canteen for your session. Make sure you mark yourself off, so you get your duty bond back at season’s end. Want to know when your age group is next on duty? Check the parent duties on the website.

Relay season

Thanks to all who registered for relays. Coming up first is our very own Mentone Relay Day, proudly supported by Community Bank Parkdale, who has been supporting this event for many years. We’d love you all to support those who support us – so please get in touch with them for all your banking needs!

TMs are coordinating relay teams as we speak and will communicate to you all. Please keep a lookout for any emails about duty rosters as there is a window of opportunity for you to request times that suit. If you do not reply to this, you will be allocated.
